little boxes ....

"Men who do not soar always have small views of things.
Wings are required for breadth of view." ....
~ Mrs. Charles E. Cowman

during my last airplane flight, i thought about the houses that held people and all their treasures ... from the air, they were similar little boxes - whether it was winnipeg, toronto, frankfurt or helsinki - the boxes just changed colour and maybe shape ... yet remained these tiny places where so much effort and money were being poured in to ... a place to collect all that stuff we love ... homes that one day will be left behind ...

i thought of the verse "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:20-22) ... just made me wonder which place i was stocking up more diligently ... the man made little box - which can be destroyed by nature, war, etc. ... or that heavenly home - which nothing can topple ...

just thinking outloud ...

I thought the same thing about the houses when I flew recently. I'm afraid I am guilty far too often of putting my treasure into my little box instead of my heavenly home.

Me too--if you've ever been robbed, you know about where your heart is...and the people throughout the South that are experiencing terrible storms and the cyclone victims...what a world, but what hope for the future we have in Christ Jesus. Love this reminder...

This post is so good. We all get caught up in our own "little Boxes" and sometimes lose sight of where our treasures really lie. Thanks for a beautiful reminder.

You are so right!! The things we build within us and in connection to loved ones are all that can never be taken away...and the most important of all is what we have with our FATHER above...

Very good thinking out loud, it speaks volumes, I guilty of wanting all the stuff for my little box, forgetting how unimportant it really is..

Oh how true, a thought that convicts me. The temporal is so distracting..as if it were eternal...and its just the opposite. And yet, we never miss what is in the past, do we? Life is all about living 'today'. Now, for me to turn away from so much 'today'...and spend time sitting at the feet of Jesus. Hope you are having a good week, you are my oldest! and very dear blogging friend AND sister in Christ...=) *hugs*

Every time I fly and look down at the "smallness" I find myself having these very profound thoughts too. Puts things in the right perspective. We are only look down from a few thousand feet, imagine what it must be from outer space!!!

I'm glad you were thinking aloud. I'll be on a few flights this summer and will remember this post.

Dear Saija,
you are right, of course, and just as I want Gunnar to build me a walk-in closet for my ever growing wardrobe.
I am like the rich man who built larger barns for his crops and said eat, drink and be happy.
Sorry.
It's an empty happiness.
Gunnar says it like this "I consume, therefore I am consumed."
And Jesus said ,"He who has two robes should give to him who has none."
I feel guilt, and yet cannot promise to change overnight.
Yours Felisol

Your thoughts out loud are very profound, my friend. Thanks for sharing them. With all the severe weather changes over here, we've become more aware of how little our trinkets and baubles really mean. In the end, what matters only is our relationship with Him.

Hope you're having a blessed day!

hugs,
Vicki
