maria's latest obstacle ...

i haven't given a maria update in a while because life has continued "normal" for her since the mid-december release from hospital ... her routines still contain dialysis 3 times a week, homecare help 5 days a week and a nursing visit every day (to change the dressing on her infected ankle and administer antibiotics via IV drip) ...

for almost 2 months, she has been enjoying a simple life at home ...

but the holes in her ankle aren't healing up ... we all knew that something would eventually have to be done ... yesterday, she saw 2 specialists and the gist of it is, they are trying one more thing - giving it two weeks - then if the ankle still hasn't shown any improvement ... amputation ...

when she phoned me last night, her voice was tired and sad from crying ... we prayed over the phone, with me feeling helpless as i tried to encourage her in any way i could ...

this morning it was the cheery maria,  energizer bunny that called me - bright and early too! ... she said that IF the foot has to go, maybe it'll take some of  her daily pain with it ... plus with no open sores, she could go swimming again (she loves to swim) ... she had found the positive ... and her BEST positive was/is being able to lean on Jesus... when we are troubled, Jesus is the Someone who knows all about our cares, understands our hurt and is there for us 24/7 ...

maria's bumpy journey continues ... and i thank you for your prayer on her behalf ...

She has been through many rough times and yet her Savior gives her a place to rest and hang on tight. I will pray for Maria today.

Hugs,

I was thinking about her this week and wondering how she was doing. I considered no news as good news.
As usual, she has lifted my spirits. God is performing a miracle everyday in her life...touching others as herself.
Tell her that I am praying for her and thank her for touching my life so deeply and positively.
hugs ~

My heart goes out to Maria and to you, Saija. Such faith and optomism. We are praying for a woman in our church, 42 years old, just had major cancer surgery of the liver last Wednesday and was in church on Sunday and standing in total faith. I had the privilege to go over with 3 others yesterday to her home and lay hands on her and pray.

I love the picture and the graphic you chose to post about this. Your blog is always so appropriate and lovely.
((hugs)) to you and your dear sister,
Susan

Maria is just an inspiration! Her attitude made me cry. I'll be praying for her, and better yet, Jesus will be there for her to lean on!

Saija,
I still remember my pastor Nancy asking me, "So what if the worst scenario took place?"..Well, I realized I would walk through it with God in the same way I had done with other crises...and then I realized in confronting the fear, I had taken Satan's power over me.

Maria's words are amazing, filled with courage and knowing God is in control. May God's honor her faith and bring miraculous healing to her ankles.
Love, Sita

Dear Saija,
How precious life is, and what incredible strength God has granted Maria to help her cope with her great trials.
She's there on my prayer list. I'll have to remind the Lord about his promises once more tonight.

Thank you for sharing, I have been praying for her. My husband has been with many people who have lost a foot or limbs due to infection; etc., one such young lady is 17 and had to lose her hip and entire leg due to cancer last fall. It's hard for me to comprehend it, but life and the will to survive is so strong and to be faced with such a choice, people usually choose life and somehow God gives the grace to be thankful and keep on and learn how to live without all the parts...Satu's attitude proves the human spirit is a survivor!

What a sweet woman Maria is....I'll pray also. That is shocking to think of losing a foot, yet her faith sustains her...he never leaves us, nor forsakes us. ~~We got 12 inches of snow overnight...our trees are bending low to the ground with their heavy load. The mountains got 20 inches. Its a beautiful sight for sure...

I was just sitting here trying to enjoy Asher through some abdominal pain that has been hanging around for over 6 weeks. I got a diagnosis and meds earlier in the week, but am not feeling better. Your sister's perspective enabled me to stop whining and start praising. Thanks for sharing! Hugs to you both.
