taken on June 9th ... i had such a good visit with Maria on that day ...
Maria passed away this morning (July 5, 2010) at 11:00 a.m.
she had been transferred to St. Boniface Hospital on friday ... they were going to do more heart surgery (an infection at the source of the last surgery was found late last week) ... but she was too weak to undergo what would have been her 3rd surgery in two weeks ... her body had had enough ...
i got to the hospital at 10:30 a.m. today, not knowing that her earthly life would end in only a few minutes ... they had hurriedly called her husband in and they were worried that he wouldn't arrive in time, but God was merciful and he made it ... we were both there as Maria took her last breath ... it was peaceful ... it was sad ... yet precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints ... she is finally pain free ...
thank you for all your prayer on Maria's behalf ... they meant so much to me and the family ...

Dear Saija,
I'm mourning with you. You have stood faithfully by your sister's side all the time of her longlasting illness.
I'm praying for the whole family, your mother in particular.
Mothers are not created to watch their children die. It's tearing their hearts to pieces.
Maria is freed from her long time pains.
Her long time accounted for days came at an end this morning.
No earthly words can besaid to ease or comfort.
Three yearsago myDad passed away, andI stillmiss him, and stillask why hehad tosuffer this much.
In his youoth myfather was an athlet, running 800 and 1500meters.
On his tomb the words from 2 Fil 4:7 "finished the race. Kept the faith" is engraved. "7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
So did Maria.
May God comfort and bless allof you.

Saija, I am so sorry to hear of Maria's passing. She has been in my prayers, and seemed to always have defied the odds. I think you have been an amazing support for her. I am so glad her husband was also able to be with her at the end. Her passing was peaceful, and she knew the Lord. We can rejoice in that. I pray the Lord will grant you a special measure of his peace and comfort at this difficult time.
