touring the petroforms

today was one of those days that made my job FUN! i got to go on a tour of the petroforms ... i was never really enthusiastic about seeing them, i thought of them as a bunch of rocks out on the Canadian Shield ...

but those "rocks" have a story behind them ... and the area itself was neat to walk on ... i love the pre-cambrian shield ...
it's amazing how this huge, sturdy rock formation is just within a stone's throw of the highway ... we followed a narrow path through the woods and voilá, within 2 minutes we stepped into another time and space ...

the petroforms would be of interest to history buffs - but the shield itself was what awed me the most ... God's handiwork was displayed in such raw grandeur ...

after much sun and walking, i shall make it an early evening!

tomorrow is another day in the salt mines in the park!

JB ... will do ... :o) ... the petroforoms were areas where the natives worshipped, as well ... that part of the tour was sad ... nature was their God ... they seemed to worship the creation, more than the Creator ...

jeanette ... i would have shared more, but i was pooped out last night! hope you have a super duper weekend!

Interesting, Saija! I love stepping back to look at things like this. It is sad they worshipped nature. :( Surely someone got the message and chose to worship the Creator.

That is really interesting to see more of the wondors of creation but sad that they were places of false worship too. I never heard of this before...shock...big grin. The petroforoms, I'm meaning! Hope you have a good weekend!

claire ... i'm thinking that the Lord can use anything to draw the seeking heart to Himself ... even these odd things we don't understand - so i take heart in believing with you that "someone got the message"!

fred ... sorry i didn't go into more detail ... i haven't googled petroform to see what comes up, i really should!

michael ... i think you would have enjoyed the tour - there were only us girls out there - no other tourists ... as one of my U.S. friends once said to me "you all have so much, for so few ... "... yup, lots of wide open spaces!!

maggie ann ... cool looking places, aren't they? i could just see some young Indian maiden, perched on a rock and contemplating her life ... hope you're having a good weekend too!
