old hymns

i'm still not completely out of the valley of sadness ... i landed there around the time of lucille's death and i've just been trying to see my way through the thicket on a day by day basis ... there are moments when i catch a glimpse of the sun and smile ... then the clouds appear and cover it all up again ... i think leo may be walking that same rock strewn path as well ... life definitely does have its seasons, doesn't it? the mountain top will be so much sweeter after this valley experience ...

that being said, i thought i'd post an old hymn ... songs like these cheer me the most!

He Giveth More Grace

He giveth more grace as our burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength as our labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials he multiplies peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

You have to remember these words..keep singing them to yourself!! Music has always helped me. Maybe you need to get out more and get involved in something to take your mind in a new direction. Get busy!! There are so many different things that you can do to get your mind going...try to think of something to get yourself out of your depression. I know I have been there before too and never want to go back. Blog more about. Put in in words..maybe that will help too. Wish I could help you...Sandy

Sandy ... blogging is a help, and not that i'm mopey/sad - just meloncholy/sad ... i think that in our day and age, we don't give enough time to truly grieve when someone dies - it's like we should take a day or two - maybe a week - then life should go on as always ... and being down isn't bad - it's a time to reflect and get closer to the Lord ... blessings on your sunday!

terry ... usually, i try to gloss over the down times - but i don't necessarily think that is the best approach! maybe the better way is to just be honest with myself and let the sadness of the season teach me whatever it is i'm about to learn! i hope that you find comfort in Christ, during your season of sadness - and that we are both stronger in our faith when the mountain top becomes a reality! blessings ...

It is certainly ok to be sad, and you seem to be doing ok in your day to day life...working, etc. You are right...grief takes time and one cannot rush it or ignore it, because it will come back stronger later, if such is done! I am so in agreement about hymns...it is those that have sustained me more times in my life than I can count...and sadly, to my knowledge, in most churches here anyway, it is a lost thing! Choruses can be fun, they can be inspiring as in going to battle, but seldom have I found one that comforts like an old hymn. If that makes me old, so be it! A lot of hymns are just scripture rephrased...no wonder they comfort so! Blessings... (you will see me sporadically now...my computer up and died and all on it lost...SO GLAD I ignored my hubby about NOT making hard copies of my work on my recipe book...sigh of great relief there, as at least my "work" was ok thanks to paper copies!!! Cause the rest can either be recovered via some time spent surfing the internet, or it can just be lost!) So now I have to borrow his and I do so with fear and trembling because I do not want the responsibility if something goes wrong with it!!!

I love this hymn...and just got done singing it aloud as I read the verses. I'm sorry you are on that rocky path of bereavement...its not an easy road, but I know the Saviour is nearer and dearer than the world just now. That is a deep comfort, isn't it! When I hurt, he seems to speak to my heart so quickly from his word. Thank you friend for your words of blessing to me in your comments at knitting kat, but I am only a worthless sinner....'Saved by Grace' !!! Its so great a blessing to know we will spend all eternity together without the sadness & presence of sin...I'm looking forward to it. won't it be fabulous!

maggie ann ... it will indeed be fabulous! ... i was listening to this DVD by Joni Erickson Tada, and she said that what she longs for when she thinks of heaven - is that all her pettiness, lack of patience and other sins will be left behind! i thought, how cool - me too! i long for that - to be sinless and with my Saviour! amen!

heehee...yep, more time to sing hymns and also to sew, listening to messages on CD, tapes etc while sewing...been on too much anyway!! I lived before computers and internet and will afterwards, I suppose! At least all my work on my cookbook was printed out (I ignored my husband's telling me not to bother printing it out...uh, yea! He is AWFULLY glad too that I have it in hard copy!!) Blessings on your day!

I think you are absolutely correct. I think it's perfectly fine to be sad and to express yourself and use music, poetry, writing, or whatever else it is that helps you work through your pain.

You and Leo are in my thoughts and prayers.

**hugs**

catherine ... i appreciate your warmth and your concern ... i think in our world today we somehow feel that if we aren't up 100% of the time, then we are failures ... but to be able to feel ALL emotion, is how we are made ... so i try to learn from the sad times ... so that i can be sympathic to someone else who is going through it ... (hugs) backatcha!
