books i'm reading ...

i found this book at the library a few weeks ago ... and would you believe, i am the first one to take it out?! it's been in the stacks for a year - what a shame that no one else has picked it up! it's a book on personal revival that Anne Graham Lotz wrote after 9/11 ...

i've never read anything by Anne before ... she writes with an intensity and the same honesty that all the Grahams' seem to have ... the book jacket says "we are living in a generation that desperately needs a fresh vision of God" ... she uses Isaiah's words throughout ... this is a book that i plan on buying, so that i can underline and also read it outloud to leo!!!

* * * * * * *

speaking of which ... leo and i are reading the Hidden Price of Greatness ... this too is an encouraging read ... the authors profile folks like Francis A. Schaeffer, the Cowmans', Spurgeon and Fanny Crosby ...

each chapter is on a different person ... and since some of the folks like Fanny Crosby and Charles Cowman struggled with disabilities - leo was able to nod in agreement as i read about some of their difficulties and also spiritual triumphs ...

so what are you reading lately?

And starting my through the Bible reading. I love reading...its so relaxing and enjoyable. And such a stress breaker! grin. Hope you are having a good week...I WIll get round to emailing you by and by. Its been really busy here with my hubby working part time and it seems we're always running to an appt. of some sort. Then, while out we browse around...that part I love!

I have read some of Anne's writings and have always enjoyed them. The other book you mention sounds good too. I just fininshed "Love and Respect". It is a book on marriage and how men are called to love, while women are called to respect. It was very interesting and raised many good points with scripture to back it up.

Dear Saija,
I've read a biography about Fanny Crosby long time ago, that made her songs even more precious. Her lyrics were not words to tickle the ear, but self experienced hymns to her redeemer.
Great!
What do I read? The calendar of Margaret Fishback Powers is my daily manna.
Christmas gift Paolo Coelho: The Pilgrimage is read sloooooowly.
Crime, borrowed at the public library, Carl Hiaasen, piles of old, very old Reader's Digest beside my bed, local history, people have lived in this area for 10 000 years since last ice age. Old and new poetry are always at hand. Hmm. I guess I read a lot, even got two boos about interior decorating and how to make handbags from Serina. Liked both of them.

John 1
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

That's my #1 favorite book.

I am reading Vasily Grossman's "Life and Fate."

Hopefully this link will work, but if not, you can go to www.barnesandnoble.com and search for it: http://tinyurl.com/39zrh9

I'm about halfway through. It's a very compelling, well-written book, but very difficult to read due to the depressing subject matter -- I find I can read only 30 to 50 pages at a time before I feel the need to take my mind off it for awhile. I highly recommend the book, though. I think it's important never to forget that period in the world's history.
