the incredible shrinking woman

have you ever tried soy ice cream? it's not bad ...
i bought some because summertime = ice-cream in my world ...
ice cream has lots of fat in it ...
i am restricting my fat intake because of my cholesterol problem ...
so it is a whole new world for me out there!

i have lost 4 pounds in 10 days ... :o(

i don't want to lose too much more because i'm not a very big person ... but i guess it is inevitable ...

did i mention how much i love chocolates?

i have barely had any ...

does anyone know of a good chocolate substitute that is low in fats? i do miss the taste of chocolate ... *sadly sighing* ...

other than that - life has been busy in our little town and here at condo central ... the big fire work display happens this saturday ... and the midway is in town ...

today i will be going out for lunch with my library buds ... so i won't lose weight today! though, i will definitely watch what i order!

blessings on you guys!

Hi Saija,
I know dark chocolate is very, very good for you in presumably reasonable amounts so I am not so sure I would eliminate it. On the other hand milk chocolate is not a good idea. To lower cholesterol it is wise to est lots of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, beans, seeds and nuts and stay away from margarine. Extra virgin olive oil is highly recommended.

Good for you! It looks like Tim has lots of good advice for you too - I was going to mention the dark chocolate thing too.

Sticking my lower lip out in a pout! I don't wanna give in! But you and "Tim" have just shone a light through the keyhole! Maybe I could do this lower-the-cholesterol thing if I keep a supply of dark chocolate and soya dessert around as a bite of reward at the end of a "good" day!

No promises! We shall see!

Is soy ice cream an oxymoron?

how 'bout trying a good choc. flavored roasted coffee ... freshly ground beans are great. I just made home made ice cream for our company this past weekend ... it really is more like a delicious ice milk as we don't use cream ... but instead whole milk and a tiny bit of half and half. Hoping you can reduce your cholesterol naturally. Your previous post with the empty beach makes me want to visit to relax in a peaceful spot.

Dear Saija,
I can only join in with the choir; my chocolate contains 81% cocoa, it's delicious with strong, dark coffee.
My doc told me to walk a lot to lower my cholesterol, and avoid stress.
Stress is poison, makes the blood thick and lumpy!
I sure hope you get the cholesterol down without pills. I tried some pills, but hade to quit, they were no good to my stomac.
I eat garlic pills though, they're supposed to help. Of course natural garlic is even better, but...
It's so important to have a small amount of pleasures if not daily, so weekly. Fresh strawberries is my favorite treat this time of the year. -No sugar though.
I do have fat to loose!

Yeah for dark chocolate! It keeps getting rave reviews everywhere I look. Congrats on your weight loss! I have to work like a horse in order to lose weight...heh... We love soy ice cream and soy milk (West Soy has one with no additives and comes unfrigerated in a box.) I even like to make my own soy ice cream in my ice cream maker--you can add whatever you want to it---fruit, cookies...heh... Thanks for your always-nice comments at my blog! blessings, Debra

I think cholesterol is largely a hereditary thing, isn't it? My Dad had, and I have "through the roof" HDL numbers. He ate 2 eggs a day and lots of butter and lunch meat every day. I also eat 2 eggs most days.

But, I guess they know from experience with other patients that you need to lower your fat intake. I hope you can get those numbers down with your diet without disappearing. We love you and want you to stick around, OK?

Sugar free chocolate pudding.
Those little packs are cheap, easy to make and the taste is great! Being a chocoholic, I should know, grin.

God's Grace.

having high cholesterol myself my advise would not be very good, because I cannot keep mine down...I get it down...then it goes right back up again...I hope you have much better luck than I do...

Joining the dark chocolate chorus, as well:

"Another study found that a diet that included dark chocolate increased good cholesterol and helped prevent bad cholesterol from oxidizing."

To Connie from Texas: They have soy ice cream at my local HEB. Of course, I live in Austin and there are a lot of vegetarians (myself included) and vegans here, so we tend to have more of that type of thing available at the grocery store. But you might want to check HEB for soy ice cream if you have one in your area.
