first post of 2010

the new year has started out with some baking ... i made a blueberry pie (one of my favs) and a chocolate pie (one of leo's favs) ... we are trying to keep the treats down to a minimum .. my excuse is that i just wanted to finish off the pie dough i had ... it was yummy - wish you could have come by for some!

well after eating the pie ... it was time to brave the elements and go for a walk ... my aunt gave me her old snowsuit which i put on for those EXTRA cold days, making the walk doable ... it was so cold that the snow made that squeaky/crunchy noise ... those of you who have spent any time in the north - know the sound i am talking about!

today i took down our card tree ... i really love Christmas cards ... soon everyone will only be sending e-mail greetings ... but while i can, i love to send greetings the old fashioned way - and feel blessed to receive them too ...

Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.  ~Hebrews 13:15

I know all too well the sound of squeaky snow - I can hear it now!
I love the way you put your cards in a tree form. What a good idea!
I would like to stop by for some blueberry pie. No one in my family likes it so I never make it.
Have a good week!

Oh the pie looks delicious!! I would go with Leo for the chocolate through. Love your card tree. I always put out cards on the door but I never thought about putting them closer together like that and make a tree. I think I'll copy you next year. I'm also with you about the cards. I love sending and receiving the old fashioned way.

Brrr....it sounds so COLD there!

I'm sorry I didn't send a card this past holiday season...I was so behind. It looks like you received a great many beautiful ones, though!

Happy New Year, Saija!

The pie is so good looking, but did you eat the whole pie??
I love the sound of the hard packed squeaky snow. we have a special word for that kind of sonw, and for various others.
The squeaky sounding snow reminds me of my childhood and walking home from church.
It's also the best snow when to ride a sledge downhills the 2,5 kilometers from my birth home to town.
Now, you've made me nostalgic.
Happy New Year greetings to the three of you.

Oooooo I love your glorious pies.
My nephew was asking his Mom,"When is maasi going to make an apple pie? ' I draw inspiration from you Saija.

Love the display for cards with you beside it and your snow suit looks so warm. We are having very sold weather here I could do with one.

Yum, blueberry is my favorite too! Such a pretty pie! Even in the south, I know about the crunchy sound of snow too. Loved your pictures. I thought the one of you in the suit was Leo! :) Loved your other picture, so cute. Wish I had sent you a card. Love you ~ Cathy

That pie looks sooooo good, You're not helping me with my diet though!
Yes I know that crunching sound too, although I don't hear it often, as I tend to hibernate during the winter.
Love the card tree too!

The pie looks yummy and you look adorable in your snowsuit! (I totally understand snowsuits, living here in Alaska--I mean, Buffalo.) :) I can't believe it took my Christmas card so long to reach you. Did I forget to write Canada on it? (Wouldn't be surprised if I did.) Oh well, I am always wishing you Christmas blessings since I prefer to think of Christmas year 'round! :) Thanks for your sweet comments at my blog and keep warm! Hugs, Debra

I knew one of your beautiful, yummy looking pies was right around the corner...and from all appearances worth waiting for!
You reminds me of my girls when they were little in your snow suit. They were so bundled they could hardly move!
You'll have to email me your address so I can have a place on your Christmas card tree!

I remember squeaky snow and snowsuits! We are about to have some very cold weather (for us), as well. Starting on Thursday night it is supposed to be in the low 20s for at least three nights in a row -- it very rarely gets that cold here! I need to go out and buy some insulating faucet socks so my outdoor faucets don't freeze, and an extra igloo bed for the feral kitties I feed (they already have one on the porch, and a couple of open beds, as well, but I want to make sure there's enough room for everybody)!

Happy New Year to you, Leo, and Indie!
