it was "the doctor day" yesterday ...

yesterday was leo's doctor day ... usually those are the dreaded hurry up and wait type of experiences for us ... for anyone in chronic pain, the drive in the car must first be endured ... then the never-ending WAIT in an uncomfortable chair, accompanied by the sterile ambiance of a doctor's office ... it increases the general discomfort of someone who is just not well to begin with!

i was not looking forward to this ...

yesterday, however, was a better experience ... leo seemed determined to have a good attitude about it, despite his cold and his continuous back pain ...

the 30 minute drive was lovely ... we talked about the fall colours ... chatted about our house-hunting ... just normal stuff ...

we arrived at the appointed time ... and as pre-arranged, we were immediately ushered into a room so that leo could lie down on the examining table if he needed to stretch out his back ...

i had brought along the book we are reading about unrelenting prayer ... and also a billy graham sermonette entitled "joy in tribulation" ... i read the sermonette out loud first ... that took 20 minutes and blessed our hearts with encouraging scripture verses and uplifting thoughts ... then i read a few pages from the book ... next we amused ourselves by reading the eye chart! ... it was 40 minutes into the wait ... leo had already reclined for a while, squatted for a while, then sat for a bit ...

the doctor was only 55 minutes late ... the visit itself took a mere 5 minutes!

leo was still uncomfortable as we drove home, yet his spirits were good ...

a victory is a victory ... *grin* ... it was indeed a day full of every day joy ...

Sounds like your dreaded day turned out to be a good day instead. Funny how when we dread something and it turns out good we look back and wonder why we dreaded it!! WE humans!! Hmmm!!
What is the name of that cartoon? I have always loved those two and have just forgotten what they are called. I would love to look them up again...Oh I just remembered..The Lockhorns...Am I right? Sandy

It's funny but you and I only know each other a tiny bit through your lovely blog, but our lives do parallell a bit. You were talking about your husband and the doctors visit while I sat waiting for results from an angiogram with my husband to find he has to have open heart surgery sooner than later... but how thankful we can be for some of the results--when we trust in God, He meets us and gives peace, and moments to reflect and be thankful... thanks for all your encouraging words on your blog. LOVED the picture of the bench on the water in your town. What beautiful spot in the world is this? We're surrounded by concrete here in LA! Bye for now--God bless.

sandy ... yes, it's the lockhorns and for most long-time married folks, quite relateable! *grin*

debra ... i'm glad that leo got out too ... he can go weeks without stepping out of the house, and i don't think that's good for him ... so even this house-hunting is profitable if he has to go for a drive! blessings backatcha!

antbk ... that is the neat thing about blogland, we find others with similar thoughts, ideas and even lives ... OR on the flipside, we visit folks who we never thought we had any common ground with - double blessings! ... our quiet little town in cottage country manitoba, and has some lovely spots - the best part, there are no big crowds, unless the July 1st fireworks or midway come to town! blessings on your weekend ...

elizabeth ... aww, thank you for the encouragement - if anything else in this world, i hope that leo can say that i truly was his "help mate" ...

susie ... i do have more anxiety when i see that leo is having trouble handle his pain or a situation ... so the day was doubly blessed in that it all went so well ...

i'm so glad it went well for you. 55 minutes seems like a long time to wait though.

mrsd ... leo's doctor doesn't seem to have a watch! so we have tried to get used to that - we are the "on time" type of people ... we call the visits patience builders .... happy thanksgiving to you!

Isn't it always so frustrating when they make you wait an hour or more for a five-minute appointment? I'm glad Leo endured it like a champ. :)

catherine ... and i know after working for some doctors - they don't always have a good reason for being late - it is just poor planning ... i try not to get to frustrated 'cause poor leo has to endure it! so it was a good day - nice surprise for us! :o)
