i have books on my shelves that haven't been read yet ... their pages are still crisp and clean, no sign of loving perusal ... somehow they got set aside ...
such was the case with Joseph Stowell's "Following Christ" ... i've had it on my shelf for 10 years ... and it wasn't until just last month that i rediscovered it - and now it's our morning devotional reading (plus the bible of course) ...
i believe in God's timing for everything ... and i think this is the book for us to chew on ...
"When Christ entered the corridors of history, He made an incredible and compelling claim - a claim that no one else has been able to make with such confidence or affirmation in the lives of those who have embraced it. He said, "I am the way and the truth and the life"(John 14:6). Without shame or reservation, He claimed to be the defining and directing force of life. No other person in history has had so many convinced followers who were willing, not only to live for Him, but - after experiencing the reality of His claims and the pleasure of a relationship with Him - to die for Him as well."
page 31 - Following Christ ...
we are about a third through ... it has challenged my heart, and i hope leo's as well ... i would unconditionally recommend this book to you ...

I think that it is extraordinary that you and Leo read a book together. I would faint if that would happen here. My hubby does not like to read NOR would he ever read one with me. I would love it though. How nice!! Sounds like a good book. Sandy
I was going to say something about GoD's timing, but you beat me to it!

Hi to Leo
I have stacks of books that I haven't yet had time to read! It's kind of nice to be able to just go to your own bookshelf and select a book you haven't read before, but I sure wish I had enough time to get caught up on my unread pile, so I could buy more. :)
Sandy ... we got into this habit of reading the daily bread devotionals together ... i'd read the bible passage and leo would read the booklet ... then some years back, when leo couldn't really hold a book comfortably, i started reading books outloud ... this really works great when i am trying to get a POINT ACROSS to him - i choose a book that kinda says it better than i could! *huge grin*
jel ... it truly seems that when we NEED a certain type of book, that is what falls into my lap ... God's timing is the coolest! hugsbackatcha!
catherine ... i LOVE having my own little library ... and it would be a much bigger library IF we had the space ... i picture a library in heaven ... :o) ... and i hope there is reading time to satisfy that longing! hope you had a good monday!!!!
Sounds like a good read. I too have books on the shelf that I need to inspect.
I've read articles from Joseph Stowell. Good stuff.
Alas, my to-be-read pile is much too high!
Books... I don't even have a book shelf! And yeah, many books I haven't read... At the moment I haven't found "the right" book for me... I've started maybe four books and never finished them!
Maybe it's time for me to stick to the Bible only at the moment?
By the way, Saija... any news about your possible trip to Finland next summer? It would be a blast to meet............
We continue to learn things more and more about the meanings behind the words spoken in scripture. The Way, The Truth and The Life were each doorways that entered the Temple in Jerusalem...the last being the doorway into the Holy of Holies. Gives much pause for thought plus more meaning and understanding as to just all the Messiah did say and you can see better why his fellows Jews would react as they did.
It is amazing how there is a time for everything, isn't it? Glad you and hubby read together...much good to come from such. Generally I only read to mine in the car, where he is my captive audience and his usual 5 minute attention span is longer...ha!!
hey guys ... i had written little comments here the other day and i was surprised to see - they aren't there! computer gremlins are at it again!
sista cala ... isn't it great to have books on the shelf to choose from?!
linda ... i've read other books by joe stowell, he has excellent insight!
eija ... my finland plans seem to have stalled with the fact that i work in the summer ... i'm just praying about that whole situation ... to see IF the Lord opens the door to a trip ... :o)
elizabeth ... i had to chuckle at the thought of your husband being the captive audience in your car! since i do the driving these days, that would work for us ... it is a good idea though! *grin*
