remembering christmas past ...

once upon a time ... in a time without chronic pain ... we built our first house ... it was a work in progress ... leo put hours and hours of labour into it ... i was his faithful sidekick "lucy the klutz" ... we had 2 cats and a dog ...

at christmas ... we became giddy kids ... and went all out ... the picture below was from our second christmas in the cortina (the style of house) ...

it took 3 burly men to stand that tree up ... we didn't have carpets yet, so we were able to put wires on the bottom and nail it into the floor so it didn't fall over ... the cats loved it! though it may have confused them a little ... *grin*

decades later we've had a wide variety of trees ... fake, real, card trees, potted plants ... and we've celebrated christmas with family, away from family, with friends and just the 2 of us ...

above is our first condo "tree" ... along with our fearless feline (we miss him SO much) ...

leo and i have spent 35 christmas' together ... not knowing what each one will bring ... or what we will keep as a memory ... we just remain thankful for each one ...

and still - every year - we get that tingly christmas feeling ... that anticipation of "something wonderful" about to happen ... i think that is the coolest part about christmas ... and that in turn always always always, speaks of God's gift of love to us!

What a tree you had! The house looks gorgeous too. It is interesting how every Christmas is different but that anticipation you mentioned is there. God's love is a great gift!

I imagine a fresh tree of that gigantic size would make the entire home smell wonderful evergreeny! What a happy memory you have shared, and the anticipation of Christmas still with you some 35 years later. Hugs,

I loved sharing your memories with you...that first tree must have taken a committee of 10 to decorate it...each Christmas holds it's own special memory...and the anticipation is part of the special memory...
Hoping you and Leo have another wonderful Christmas this year...
I just wish you could find another sweet gentle Cat for Leo to share his days with when you are working...

Saija,
Loved that first photo with that gynormous (learnt that word from ELF!) tree. It is interesting to look back on our journeys thus far and see the touch of God's Hand. It is wonderful to sustain that 'tingly' feeling even when the journey leads in dark and veiled places. Do have a warm and wonderful Christmas. May the Prince of Peace rule in your hearts.
Love, Sita

Dear Saija,
I've never seen a Christmas tree as huge as the first one.
Really impressive.
Nor have I seen so sweet and tiny one as the table tree with your cat.
I think you own this gift to find blessings in any shape or form.
That's what make those tingling Christmas feeling.
Welcome the unexpected.

That's a honkin' big tree! Wow! Thanks so much for your comment on my blog. I'm finding that as Christmas draws closer, there are more "sad" moments that happen. They don't last long - probably because I try to push them aside so I won't cry. But, I know the Lord will comfort me during this, and that He is right by my side.

You must feel a little deja vu when you read about me and Tony, I guess. :)

I hope you two have a wonderful Christmas together, enjoying the tingly feeling this week.
