arachnoiditis and mortality
yesterday i did a search for arachnoiditis ... the condition leo was diagnosed with after his 2 failed back surgeries ... i wanted to see if any new bloggers had popped up since my last search a year ago ... i did find some ... i also found a young woman's blog who had just died due to complications arising from her arachnoiditis ... she passed away in july ... on leo's birthday ...
she had only been blogging for a few months ... her mom wrote the last post ...
this 30 year old woman's name was Kelli ... she testified, with joy, of her faith in Christ ... tho' sad to read - the posts were filled with sweetness midst the pain ...
here is her blog: http://kelli-larson.blogspot.com/

Wow, I had no idea this condition could cause death, especially to someone so young. That is such a shame -- from her blog, she sounds like such a sweet girl.
catherine ... i was surprised too when i read her blog, but i think she may have had other medical problems and then the arachnoiditis just was too much ... i felt so badly for the way she had to suffer as well ...
I had read this blog a few weeks ago when I was looking up arach. It borke my heart. But I learned a little about arach in the process. Am still a bit dumbfounded--I had back surgery too and it sounds like it is sometimes a complication arising from having surgery. And a bad one at that. I know a couple of people with it. Both had the surgery and everything just went bad after that. Sure sorry your husband has suffered with so much pain. Thanks for sharing!
antibk ... they now think that some of the tests that have to be done before back surgery (mylograms, etc) may also cause some of the arach ... and i think for cases like leo, the chronic pain and meds will shorten his years, though not take him in a manner like kelli died ... it will be absolutely marvellous to have 100%, feeling fine, type of bodies in heaven!
Thanks for this post. I needed it tonight.
jeanette ... the God must have had me find it for you, dear one ...
Kelli was my sister. She died a day before my birthday. She got an infection after surgery to insert a medication IV permanently into her back. This was supposed to relieve her spasticity due to cerebral palsy. I feel so badly for Leo. Doctors should explain the risks associated with back surgery, especially the risk of contracting arachnoiditis. Thanks you all of you who commented on this blog about my sister.
Oh, and Kelli died due to pneumonia, but it was a complication due to underlying arachnoiditis.
patrick ... i felt so badly for your loss, yet Kelli is now free from her earthly chains ... with the Lord she loved! what could be more wonderful, for her, this Christmas ... Jesus gives us strength at all times ...
