sunrise at 40 below ...

have you ever wondered what a sunrise at -40F/-40C looks like? take a gander at the picture above ... this was the view from our dining room window, first thing this morning ...

there was an eiry glow ... ice mist shrouded the frozen river ... cars drove slowly, with engines whining ... towns folk stoically went for their morning walks, bundled up - layer upon layer upon layer ... schools were cancelled ...

the beauty was there ... in such a breath-taking way ...

cold is peaceful too ... i mean, when was the last time you heard of eskimos wanting to do harm to mankind? or northern countries spoken of as dangerous melting pots?

cold like this is a forced rest to those of us that live on this tundra ... and for me, who needs to finish unpacking ... it was a very fine productive day!

and despite the frigid weather, i could still say " this is the day the Lord has made, i will rejoice and be glad in it! " ... maybe said with a wee bit of defiance!

I've often wondered what sunrise in any weather looks like.

HA!

That's really, really beautiful. :)

I'm so glad you had a productive day. Little busy bee that you are.

Oh Saija...This is so beautiful!
Just to think that not only did God give you a fine house to live in but He gave you one that comes with a view!!
This sunrise is just a reminder of all He is richly giving to you two!
I am so glad you posted it!...Love Terry

Hmm... It almost looks like an Ontario sunrise, the kind that David Fisher would take or Eija!

Thats a good one..'when have you heard of Eskimoes wanting to do harm to mankind'..and its SO true!!! I always felt the world is a safer place when the temps are bitterly cold. You don't have to wondor who's outside up to no good when its 6 degrees outside the windows..right? Hey, not even a worry that the skunks are out and about...grin. I enjoyed your post..as I always do..it sounds delightfully provincial...like the song describes in Beauty and the Beast...careful now, I'm not meaning to imply anything here...though once in a while my sense of humor has described my hubby as the beast and ...better not go there..grin. Some days its a choice of being right or feeling guilty while we laugh. Oh, this sense of humor, it just won't let up!! =)..*hugs*

p.s. I couldn't comment on the picture...cause blogger only has a small red 'x' there. I'll look for it next time I come visiting...

terry ... leo and i have praised the Lord together, many a morning re the view and just how this little place of ours came to be ... truly a miracle, as we view it! a miracle with a view - yup yup!

maggie ann ... *grinning* ... i hear ya, sister ... i think the Lord smiles along with us ... i mean we must have gotten our sense of humour from our Heavenly Father, right? :o) ... hope you get to see the pic, i was so happy that the digi captured some of the beauty ...

A "forced" rest. The picture is hauntingly beautiful. Peaceful, yet bone chilling enough to remind us that beauty can be dangerous for man and beast at the same time. Glad you can enjoy the view from the comfort of your warm cozy condo

Many years ago we lived in northern Wisconsin and saw some of those frigid sunrises...the sun shining was such a blessing then...still is.

Have you also noticed that the colder it is the quieter it is? I remember that from living in Illinois. It seemed it was so very still!! Maybe it makes us all slow down some. sandy

Claire ... your mom is basking in Jesus light right about now ... but you know that, though earthly goodbyes are sad - you have the hope of seeing her again ... hopefully that thought brings comfort ...

tina ... frigid sunrise is a pretty good description! it is a lethal sort of beauty, isn't it?

royal ... i think you'd get frostbite with that sort of invention *grin* ...

sandy ... yup, it is peacefully quiet - everyone is indoors keeping warm! and slowing down can be such a blessing, eh ...

Awesome!

And yeah, there's something special in very cold days. The athmospehere truly is totally different. But I still don't like cold! It's WAY too cold here these days - and not even as badly as in your corner. The worst day was -27C, this morning "only" -20...

Be it summer, SOON! And yeah, I still remember how I kept ranting about the excessive heat last summer. Sigh. Never happy, huh?
