our library ...

first an update on maria ... they have stabilized her ... they have also let her go home, which is unsettling for us ... we would have preferred she stay in the hospital over the weekend ... we do covet your prayer for her ... as i said, she has been stablized, yet all her diagnosis remain the same and grave ...

yet there is other news, which is good ... i have a part-time job at the local library! it is something i have always wanted to do ... and now that we live in town, i'm so close that it's an easy walk ... *smile* ... i only work 2 days one week and 3 days the next ... and the job ends in april, so i can still have our beautiful summers off ... i do feel blessed!

with that said, here is another from my archives - written in march of 2005 - at that time i didn't know that our cottage would be sold and that i would actually be working at the same library i love to visit ...

blessings to you, dear blog buds!

yesterday i visited one of my favourite places in our quaint little town ... the public library ... i walked in and realized that even the air permeates books ... it enveloped me like the hug from a dear friend ...

my first stop was the "what’s new" shelf ... and i was tickled to see a Francine Rivers’ book, The Priest ... i picked it up and continued my perusal for things to read ...

this year i visit the library every 3 weeks ... last year i went on a weekly basis ... this year i usually pick up 4 books ... last year i would pick up 6 books ... this year i feel refreshed and at peace with my reading material ... last year i read and read and read, yet felt empty ...

so what is the difference? this year i am trying to feed my soul, not to titillate my senses ... i’m not saying that i am reading only study books or Christian novels ... but i am choosing the secular books with more care ...

last year i just wanted to escape my life in a novel ... which is a fine "vacation" occasionally, but definitely not as a steady diet ... i left the table hungrier than when i sat down!

yet somehow i didn’t want to "see" that all i needed was just a little bit of self-discipline in the area of books, and the Lord would bless my "little bit", a whole lot!

i think i’m a slow learner in some areas of my life ... but i am still teachable ... smile ... and i think it counts in God’s eyes ...

vicki ... yes, in the midst of everything - there is this little library job opening up for me!!! of course my sweet husband is doing a little grumbling, that he thought i am retired ... but i reminded him that i said i wanted the summer off - then just a wee part-time job, in the library if possible! :o) ... it is so close that i could probably run home in 30 seconds if needed!!! thank you for your prayer on our behalf!

cathy ... and more good news - my monitor is now in the city (i tracked it yesterday re the fedex #) and i am HOPING that it shows up today!!! hope hope ... then i can get back to easily reading everyone's blogs!!! ya! blessings backatcha!

Susan ... a bookstore would be good too! :o) ... and tho' i am doing a little bit of volunteer work - i do like the idea of a paychque for working in a place i love to go to - isn't that the best? *grin grin grin*

mimi ... yesterday i did ALOT of hand-holding and consoling my family - over maria ... there is distrust and dislike towards her hubby - so that can cloud judgement - and there is also real fear about her health ... sometimes we want to blame "someone" for a situation where there really is no one to pin it on ... .... the library job was indeed a ray of sunshine into my little world ... i can hardly wait to learn the new computer programs involving the books!!!! coooooollllllll!

sara ... i so appreciate the prayer and encouragement that i have received through you, my blogging buds ... i just got an e-mail from maria's best bud, sayiing that maria had called her late last night and sounded very lucid and in good spirits ... many times when the family calls, we get the answering machine - so we have to wait for her call ... blessings on you!

If there is a perfect job it MUST be in a library....grin. I'm almost jealous!! Almost...wow, just think of all the books you will make friends with now....books are the best friends of my life, thats for sure. They take me places...make me laugh, cry...you know how it is! grin. I hope your sister does ok at home...perhaps her husband is a good caregiver? I have a prayer request for a lady named Kim...told she has to be in the hosp. 1 month...and she has a baby at home that old...

HOW THE LORDD DOES PROVIDE SAIJA! What a neat post from '05 -- pretty amazing. Makes me think of the verse "delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." I'm praying for Maria--I know exactlky what it's like when your beloved sister is married to someone you can't trust. It's very, very difficult. So we pray and watch for opportunities to show love and support your loved one as you all are trying to do.
