Sunday musings spawned by the Billy Graham Special last night and Mercy Me’s song I can only Imagine.
song lyrics to "I Can Only Imagine"
I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk By your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face Is before me
I can only imagine
[Chorus:]Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself Standing in the Son
I can only imagine
When all I will do Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
[Chorus]
I can only imagine [x2]
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you
the first time i heard this song, it was performed at a most unexpected venue . . . during the finals of the Canadian idol competition . . . here’s the story . . .
Canadian idol was on my must see list last fall . . . the group of "wanna be idols" was as diverse as our landscape and mix of cultures . . . the final two were both excellent singer/musicians, but the sweet, angelic looking manchild , Kalan Porter, was the front runner . . . he seemed shy and awkward whenever he was interviewed, hiding behind his blond curly locks - but when he performed - WOW, he was a natural . . . NOW all that was left to do was nail the final performance with a song that his "fans" related to and where he could rock - then the rest would be history . . .
Kalan opened this decidedly secular show with I can only IMAGINE by Mercy Me . . . i had never heard the song before . . . but then the lyrics hit me full force, and i knew that regardless of the little boy appearance, Kalan’s performance took guts and a rod of pure steel running down his spine!
i was soooo blown away by this open, unabashed testimony of a young man’s faith . . . during an "idols" competition no less!!! he could easily have thrown away his chances of winning - he was out there, he was unashamedly telling the world that he was a believer . . . and just imagine, Kalan won . . . by a landslide no less!
what a witness . . . what a blessing . . . and what a reminder of "what is to come" . . . yes, i can only imagine. . .
