Asian Devastation

i've always been a news junky - the major story yesterday, however, was just devastating . . . the tidal wave (tsunami) that struck the countries that rim the Indian Ocean was horrific . . . i watched the BBC station . . . they had the best coverage.

CNN didn't have the non-stop coverage, like
BBC . . . CNN did have an interview with "Nate" (the Oprah design guy) . . . he was talking from a cell phone, in some field on an island that had been hit by a tsunami, he was without his passport or any personal belongings - pleading for help (water is really needed) . . . so the scope of this touches everyone . . .

last night i happened to get an e-mail from missionaries who we know in Indonesia . . . they were fine, as they are inland . . . they don't e-mail very often . . . Leo and i had been wondering how they were . . . voila, an answer!

2 organizations that we feel comfortable with giving support to when things like this happen are
Samaritans Purse and World Vision . . .

when a world catastrophy happens, it gives me a fresh perspective on life . . . our world is so small now a days . . . we are connected . . .

sigh . . .

just thought i'd blog what i'm thinking about this morning . . .

This is so sad. I've been listening to talk radio on my commute (all of 10 minutes) to work today. My mom e-mailed me a couple of links about this when it first happened (she lives in Korea). (sigh)

Jeanette:

i guess your mom would really hear different types of up-to-date stuff . . . korea, eh . . . wow.

we really are a small little blue planet the way we connect over these kinds of things . . .

but no matter what, we do just keep on going . . . disasters happen all the time, i guess it's the Christmas timing that gave us all a kick in the stomache . . .

Michael:

you really did say it all quite well on your blog . . . all of us hate to hear about SUCH tidings of sadness, don't we . . . at this time of year . . .

sigh . . .

anyway - you guys take care . . . i'm off to bed -hopefully tomorrow will appear brighter ? ? ? ? one can only hope, eh . . .

I was in church and my pastor told us of it and the devistation. I was wondering about the missionaries and if anyone was in the prison that was obliterated. I haven't been able to check out Voice of the Martyrs yet, but am glad that they are OK! Thank God!

Yeshuasgrrl: i know, the whole disaster is one that i personally find hard to stop thinking about ... maybe because it is always in our faces with the TV reports and especially the children . . . sigh
